La Cuenta
Residency : 18 > 23 September 2023
Event : 22 September 2023 - 2pm
La Cuenta [Medellín-Marseille] addresses the issue of deadly settlements of scores between rivals, the collateral victims of which are often women - wives, mothers and sisters - whose lives oscillate between the desire for revenge and peace, mourning, resistance and resilience.
Hylel was born between Marseille and Medellín, two cities marked on different scales by the terrible problem of the violence of drug trafficking and the related tit-for-tat killings.
In Medellín, Marina Gomes met community associations who work with families to break the vicious circle of reprisals and to pacify local neighbourhoods, notably through artistic actions that contribute to La Cuenta's set design.
In Marseille, groups of bereaved women are also beginning to be formed. In both cities, there is the same desire to raise awareness and bring peace.
The choreographer aims to show these women fighting for peace.
Faithful to the aesthetic of the Hylel company's first creations, Marina's dance is rooted in a style that goes beyond the codes of hip-hop, but which always takes inspiration from references to street culture.
